Not until I have the money to buy a brand new Corolla, Civic, Focus or something in that class that is very fuel efficient and with a warranty (plus extended warranty/maintenance plan). Whatever it is, that would be my fav car.

All the Euro cars under $7000 i’ve owned can’t compare to that.

The Z4 is pretty cool, but that’s more my wife’s fun whip/ short run DD.

27 vehicles in, I don’t have a favorite car. The most fun I’ve had driving was in my ‘04 RX8, followed by the ‘92 Miata, then the ‘96 Yukon that I took out on the beach often. I have yet to find one that I want to latch on to and keep forever. I’ve only gotten rid of three vehicles that I didn’t want to because of accident or being financially responsible when I got laid off: ‘85 CRX Si (totaled, rear ended at a border patrol station while waiting in line, she hit me at about 45MPH), ‘90 Saab 900T (mechanical failure), 2002 Tundra (laid off). I could see still having that Tundra today, as it was after that vehicle that the car carousel really started.

Short version: Bought it for $1,000 with it having basically sat in the street for six years. Drove it home, much to the terror of the previous owner. Fixed shit in my driveway, have used used it to move twice, and as a homeowner have already literally moved tens of thousands of pounds of material. It was even my DD for two years. Anyway, I love it.

Depends, I’d like to say the Bel Air, because I find it beautiful and it’s fun to see people’s reactions to it. I’d like to say the 505 because it’s a daily drivable, understated and underappreciated classic car, it also drives nicely, is reliable, and has a decent fuel economy. I’d like to say the RX-8, because it drove so wonderfully I bought a second one after I crashed the first one, and I put up with the shit the second one put me through.
Tough question really

1. ‘99 F-150

2. ‘79 Porsche 924

3. ‘89 Camaro RS

4. ‘95 Oldsmobile Aurora

5. 1950 Ford F3 (This is going to jump up once I actually drive it)

This list in no way reflects how good each of these vehicles is in any dynamic, just my favorites.

This - I’ve been lucky and have had a lot of good, reliable cars, but this one is the one I enjoy driving the most. I’ve owned it for 17 years, but rowing the gears with the top down is still fun, even though it’s really pretty slow. Plus, it comes from back when BMW built great drivers cars that weren’t overloaded with gimmicks - and it’s been reliable too.

Mine would have to be my R56 Mini Cooper S. I wound up swapping the shocks out for Koni FSD’s, ditching the runflat tires in exchange for some stickier non-runflats, adding a Helix short shift kit, a Defenders of Speed CAI, and a flash tune from Alta. All this added up to a car that was quick, comfy on road trips, got pretty good gas mileage, and was way too much fun to drive. It’s downside was it’s size, and cost of parts. You had to basically choose between people or cargo, and if/when things broke it was usually going to be expensive to fix.

Kinja'd!!!

I miss this car every day. I don’t dislike my FoST DD, and my NB1 is way more fun than a car with as little power as it has should ever be, but the Mini is still my favorite, and I periodically find myself looking at used 2nd gen JCW’s.

My 2002 SVT Focus. It was number 85 ever made, and I bought it on Valentine’s day 2006, with 42k miles on it. I sold it around 10 years later with 112k miles. It helped me moved to Savannah, Georgia by myself, then back home again two months later (There was a girl involved. No, I don’t want to talk about it. Things ended badly, and I needed to move home.) I stayed with me through 3 jobs, meeting and marrying my wife, moving from an apartment by myself to in with my wife, and then on to our new house. I knew all kinds of crazy knowledge nuggets about that car from spending nearly 10 years on the FocalJet.com forums. Like how the first 100 or so Sonic Blue SVT Foci had a different base layer in the paint that gave it an almost purple hue in direct sunlight.

I loved driving that car. I still miss it. The SVT Focus is truly one of the most under-appreciated driver’s cars ever built. A well sorted SVTF is just completely sublime to drive on a winding road. That engine, which was tuned with help from Cosworth, just wants to rev. And Ford nailed it with that chassis; it will lift-off oversteer when pushed. It just rotates supremely well for a FWD car. The seats were fab. It was a hatchback, so it was basically a truck. I put so much shit in that car it was hilarious when it all fit.

My current DD GTI is a very nice car. It is impressively comfortable and excellent at long-distance driving. It is quiet around town when I am just trying to get home. And this winter I have a renewed appreciation for having heated seats; which are also plaid.

I still wish my GTI handled as well as my SVT did.

bought it new in 2010 and crashed it in feb 2015.

Crashed it one month before having it 5 years.

I bought it cause in 2010 I wanted a small manual awd car, so my options were this and the impreza. At the time no subi dealer close, but the local suzuki dealer had this sitting in the lot. Only manual car they had in stock!

tried it, liked it, bought it.

fall 2014 I installed those General Grabber AT2 that are in this pic, was planning the 2 inch lift kit, but crashed it before i bought the lift kit.

almost bought another SX4 last year, but the one I tried had to many problems, and after 2 years of driving a 7 passenger Pathfinder, found it really really tiny.

My ’89 BMW 325i Coupe which I still have (owned since 2007).

Kinja'd!!!

In the time I’ve had this car an S2000 and a 5MT Legacy GT wagon have come and gone, but this is the one I can’t get myself to let go of. It barely gets driven anymore, especially this time of year – and with a baby on the way it’ll be used even less, especially if baby is in tow – so for months I’ve been trying to think of something newer, safer, and more family friendly that could be a worthy second/fun car. But I’m completely at a loss (especially given that I don’t want to have throw any $ on top of what the current car is worth).

Keep thinking about consolidating DD+fun car in to one, but still can’t figure out anything that ticks all the right boxes….so I may be destined for a future of just hanging on to this old girl and whatever cheap commuter box I happen to run around town in (currently a Chevy Spark EV).

My GTI is a much better DD. If I had the funds and room, I’d have kept the SVT for weekends and nice days.

I also don’t want to have to keep spending money to maintain a 13-15 year-old vehicle anymore. My SVT was in the shop every other month before I sold it. Granted it was repairing thing that need repair with age, but I grew tired of that very quickly.

What springs do you have? I’m thinking about getting H&R sports once it thaws out. Also picking up an 89 to replace my rusty 90 this weekend, the 90 has black sport seats. Very used, but no tears if you’re interested. I might store the 89 until it thaws as well though and let the rusty chassis take the salt abuse.

Mine was #4XX something also Sonic Blue, pretty sure it had the purpleish base coat. It was an early enough build to use fords green coolant instead of the gold they got after the first 6mos or so.

Favorite DD? My current car, a manual E46 wagon (awd). I’ve had two, back to back since 2009. It carries me, my kids, dogs, stuff, bikes, skis, trash to the dump, firewood, garden stuff, everything. It’s fun in the corners, comfortable on long trips, and a blast in the snow.

Favorite all time? I love my 1961 Ford F100 4x4. But I wouldn’t want to drive it every day, everywhere, year-round.

Honorable mention: my 1993 Cherokee I owned while living on Maui. We beat the crap out of it, and it just worked. It was comfortable, reliable, and indestructible. I also never got it stuck, amazingly.

In my 14 years of driving I’ve owned 5 cars. The longest of which is my ‘94 Camaro which will be 12 years this March. I’d be hard pressed to ever sell it as it’s my ‘first’ and is what really got me into cars. I’ve more or less rebuilt the whole thing aside from the engine at this point.

Kinja'd!!!

The 2nd longest tenured was my ‘91 Festiva, which I had for nearly 5 years, if I remember correctly. Despite being a slow tin can, this car was a hoot with the 5-speed. It also required a lot of work to keep it on the road, as it sat in a yard in Texas for a decade before I got it.

Kinja'd!!!

Currently my daily driver is an ‘05 Saab 92-x Aero, which I’ve owned for a bit over a year and a half now. Lurking in the background is the ‘06 Corolla that served DD duties for about a year and a half prior. It was great transportation, but the only car I’ve sold because it was too boring.

Kinja'd!!!

Not pictured is the teal ‘93 Festiva that I had for a couple months, nor the ‘89 Taurus that I learned to drive in since it wasn’t technically mine.

I can hardly answer that because I don’t know.

The ‘66 Beetle? It was a Beetle, it was my first car, plus it had a sunroof!

The ‘67 SAAB Monte Carlo? The owner’s manual described it as a “sports car with super-performance,” and it was so uniquely designed and so different from any other car I’ve had, nobody else on the road had a car like mine, and that exhaust note!

The ‘81 Corolla fastback? My first brand-new car. I’ve never had a better-put-together car. It was the first car I ever had where I could take a road trip with no worry whatsoever - did you know there’s no word for “breakdown” in Japanese? it’s truuuuue! (not true).

The ‘90 Corolla? Got me through some tough times, again stubbornly refusing to break down.

Or the three Miatas, a ‘93, a ‘99 and my current ride, an ‘04? Always the answer. All so, so good. I remember that for the first couple weeks driving the ‘93 my face actually kind of hurt from grinning so much.

1987 Toyota pickup, much like this one

Kinja'd!!!

Mine was dark metallic red. SR-5, 22R-TE, every available option except A/C. Thing had a sunroof and power antenna for chrissakes! Sure, it wasn’t the most powerful thing on the planet, but 135/173 in 3200 lbs was certainly peppy particularly for the time. That motor was paired to a 5-speed manual (a true SR-5 ) and all those torques were planted in the back by a limited-slip rear end. It was more fun than a 16 year old kid should be able to have.

It was totaled by a Mercury Marquis. I will find another, and I will buy it and I will love it and I will restore it and I will keep it till I die

I guess my favorite car I’ve ever had is my S2000. It was mostly a weekend car/track toy that I owned from around 2006-2009, but I’ve never had as much fun behind the wheel as I did in this. Still regret trading it in for a Land Rover (ugh), but maybe one day I’ll pick up another one.

Yup, I have the H&R & Bilstein sports suspension package kit that Turner sells. I absolutely love them. Did a couple of track days and a whole lot of autocross with these and held up just great, and still soft and compliant enough for casual driving or long road trips. No surprise why it’s such a popular option for the E30.

Thanks, I already have a pair of re-upholstered sport seats…but I’m not a huge fan of the cheapish material they used. It looked great at first, but now starting to show quite a bit of wear. So will probably need to be re-done someday, but not yet. The only thing I’m really (meaning very casually) hoping to find right now are a set of uncracked ellipsoid headlight assemblies, and a period correct cassette stereo for that OEM look. What condition is your new 89 in? Color/specs?

Runner up probably goes two of the vehicles in this picture. The MR2 SC and the Honda Ruckus that’s tucked away in the garage. Again, these are both long gone from me, but they were both amazing while I had them. The Passat parked next to the Toyota...not as amazing to own, but not altogether terrible.

Kinja'd!!!

The overall top 10:

1. Honda S2000

2. Toyota MR2

3. Honda Ruckus

4. ‘65 Mustang coupe

5. Subaru SVX.

The other 20-odd vehicles all kind of trickle down from there.

That is what I wanted to hear because I love the height of yours. The 89 is pretty much the same as yours. But with tan interior. My 90 is actually the same as yours.

https://madison.craigslist.org/cto/d/miles-great-1989-bmw-325i-e30/6444697098.html

He’s actually got it on bottle caps with winters right now. Our deal is he keeps the Beyerns because I’ve already got a set of BBS RK001, style 5s and bottlecaps. Funnily enough I purchased the style 5s and the bottle caps from the same guy I’m buying the car off of.

I guess the 89 was originally an auto, he did a 5spd swap using a crashed race car which is where the style 5s came off. When I got them they had hoosiers on them.

I so badly want an original radio. I’ve wondered if the ellipsoid lights throw the beams better than the bullseye. This guy apparently put leds in his bullseye so I’ll see what that’s like.

My favorite car is in this picture, and it’s not the Miata - it’s the Honda Accord behind it in the driveway.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve looked and looked, and can’t find a picture of that old Honda where it was the focus of the picture - it’s always lurking in the background. Why on earth would a car I never cared enough to take a picture solely of be my favorite car, especially when I owned a Miata?

It’s simple - the Honda was a Damn Good Car. Hell, it might have been Peak Car. It was a 90's Honda with relatively low mileage (80k to 145k while I owned it), with a bunch of bells and whistles (power everything, sunroof, ABS, VTEC yo because it was an EX), that had been well maintained by aunt and cousin. It did everything high school and college aged me needed it to, reliably and efficiently with that extra bit of cheerful intensity that permeated everything Honda made in the 80's and 90's. My Miata was more fun and my Focus is vastly more refined and sophisticated, but that Honda was pure, distilled competence cloaked in fading beige paint. I doubt anything new will be able to match it, which is why my long term goal is find another one, but with a stick this time (the automatic was arguably the worst part of the car). Hopefully there are a few nice ones hiding in grandmas garage to fulfill my future midlife crisis.

Thanks, yeah I love my current ride height too. Personally I think it’s just right without looking too low to not pass off as stock. Night and day compared to what it looked like before (as shown below), so a huge plus even on top of how well they function too.

Kinja'd!!!

Sounds like a nice find that works for you perfectly. Style 5s are the basketweaves right? Even those are getting harder and more expensive to find. I have the Zender wheels (currently on some shitty snow tires) the car came with shown in the above picture, but in my quest to get closer towards a stock look I’d love to be able to trade even both my sets of wheels and tires out for a set of basketweaves with good rubber that is ready to go. I’d love a set of 15” euroweaves so I could swap in my current tires, but those things will forever be out of my price range even if I do find a pair.

My favorite is my ‘86 Civic Si, which I owned from ‘92 to ‘95. It’s the one that got away.

The only one I miss is still the Civic.

The ‘92 S-10 made the best sounds when the muffler fell off (thrice).

The ‘05 Malibu Maxx was the most useful, also ugliest.

My current ‘15 Accord is the first brand new car I’ve ever had (still under the lease), and probably the best of any car I’ve ever owned.

For completeness, I’ll include the others just cuz...

the ‘81 Accord was the first

the ‘99 Dakota was probably the one I owned the longest and saw me through the biggest changes in my life

the ‘05 Tacoma is great, but it’s not an ‘86 Civic.

Ya they’re the basket weaves. Just have to troll craigslist. I ended up getting mine for 200$ the set, gave my brother in law 50$ to pick them up and bring them with them next time they visited. Then he called me and said this guys got another set of rims he’ll sell you for 50$ and I was like hell ya. I wish I had euro weaves, the tire selection in 14" is pretty slim.

Wow. I’m on car #24 right now.

5 of those cars have been Miatas (NA, 2 NBs, NC, and currently a ND Club).

I only have 350ish miles on the ND. But I think of those 5, my favorite was my ‘00. It had the factory suspension pkg. Added swaybars, a roll bar, header and muffler. Did a track day in it. Took it to Deal’s Gap twice.

My Fiesta ST would probably be behind the Miatas.

For road trips, I loved my C6. 500 miles out of a tank. NY to STL with only 1 stop.

How about the opposite? Out of all the vehicles I’ve owned, there really is only one that a disliked - a forest green 2001 Civic DX Coupe manual. No power, kinda bloaty, weak brakes, didn’t handle very well, weird suspension clunk up front, ergo wasn’t great for me and some of the interior fabrics started to come apart at 60,000. It never stranded me, but it never was really enjoyable either.

Needs JDM Type R-icer badge, 2000 fart can, park bench and/or stepladder spoiler, must be slammed below sea level, cambered to the point where it looks like a wanna be flying car, and stickers everywhere. You would’ve had a way better experience, the Type R-icer badge itself has an extra 1500 horsepower, and the whole thing would also be better if you bought it from me.
